New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani said he spoke with US President Donald Trump about the Israeli government “committing genocide” in the Gaza Strip during their meeting on Friday.
Mamdani said he conveyed to the US president that his supporters, as well as Trump’s supporters, want their tax dollars redirected from foreign conflicts to basic needs at home.
The mayor-elect also added that he told Trump that “all efforts towards peace,” while noting that a commitment to international human rights must accompany these efforts.
