The internet’s leading streaming guide, JustWatch, has named the top ten most rewatched movies over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Based on the analysis of data compiled over the last three years, analysts have identified those movies that families return to again and again when they gather for the holiday.

As families come together for the holidays, watching movies together is a common and fun family tradition. According to JustWatch, not only is watching movies together a durable family tradition, but exactly which movies are watched – and rewatched – are part of that tradition.
Families, it seems, tend to watch the same movies at each holiday. In analyzing data from 2022, 2023, and 2024, the popular guide for streaming content has created its Most Rewatched Thanksgiving Movies list.
Some of These You Could Guess, Others May Surprise You
If watching movies together is one of your family’s traditions, then I suspect some of these movies on the JustWatch list won’t surprise you. However, I have to admit, some of the movie titles appearing on this list did surprise me.
As Analysts Studied the Data, Insights Emerged
To put this list together, the company examined the streaming and clickout behavior of more than 20 million JustWatch users in the U.S. From this data, they analyzed spikes across Thanksgiving weekends during the 2022-2024 time period. Rankings are then calculated using its proprietary popularity index, which measures user engagement across all major streaming services and cinema offers.
Analysts at JustWatch were able to identify certain insights. For example, the company says travel-themed comedies “remain unbeatable.” It says that “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” is the unofficial definitive Thanksgiving movie. It also notes that the relatively recent popularity of “Knives Out” suggests that “murder-mystery marathons are becoming a new holiday staple.”
Some Insights are Predictable
Perhaps a less surprising insight is that family-friendly movies and fantasy films, such as “Wicked,” “The Wizard of Oz,” and “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” are popular for family holiday viewing. Also, it’s not too surprising to find that nostalgia reigns supreme for holiday viewing, as evidenced by the fact that a majority of these films are from before 2010.
