I need help navigating a situation that I had at the Wheeler Opera House the other night when I went to go see Iris DeMent. Little did I know I had a scalped ticket until I went to the box office and found out that it was a third-party ticket, apparently bought by somebody else. This person decided to sell it online, making it look like it was a ticket sold by the Wheeler Opera House. I paid $120 for a $45-$65 ticket because I did not care what the price of the ticket was to see DeMent, my heroine.
I was pretty livid when I found out I had been taken. I was very grateful that my ticket did work and I could go to the concert. The audience behind me was not very polite and I had to shush them like a schoolteacher a few times and then gave up as I wanted to just concentrate on the beauty of Dement and the two women accompanying her.
I have called the Wheeler twice now to ask for their help and how to remedy the situation. I am wondering if any of you have an idea of how to report this circumstance or if it is even worth putting the energy into it. I will be very wary the next time I purchase a ticket from the opera house. It is really disappointing that Iris did not receive any of the money I paid some jerk who thought it was a good idea to be greedy.
Music lovers unite! Bring back the desire to go hear music in Aspen, the silver city that’s losing it’s soul. Let’s hope for change.
P.S. Someone at the Wheeler did return my call. A very kind person put my stress to ease and relayed the message to her supervisor. The supervisor did respond to me in an email, but it felt like a sugarcoated response — there was nothing they could do about it but acknowledge it’s a problem.
