3M has opened applications for the 2026 edition of its “25 Women in Science” program, which this year will highlight women working in the manufacturing sector across Latin America. The company said the initiative aims to recognize professionals who are driving industrial progress through science, technology and innovation.
Launched in 2020, the program has honored more than 100 scientists from the region and has become a key platform for elevating women’s visibility in STEM fields. According to 3M, it also seeks to inspire girls and young women to pursue scientific and technological careers.
The 2026 edition will focus on women leading innovation from manufacturing plants, engineering centers and laboratories—roles that 3M says are critical for strengthening regional competitiveness and shaping the future of the sector.
Insights from the 2025 State of Science Index (SOSI), a study conducted by 3M, underscore manufacturing’s importance in Mexico and Latin America. Four in five Mexican adults (80%) would recommend careers in the sector—led by Generation X at 89%—citing job stability (32%) and opportunities for advancement (29%) as key motivators. Additionally, 83% believe manufacturing jobs have a positive economic impact.
However, the study highlights an ongoing challenge: communicating that technology enhances human capability rather than replacing it. “With this edition, we want to recognize those demonstrating that technology doesn’t replace talent—it amplifies it,” said Adriana Rius, Communications Director, 3M Latam & Canada.
The call is open to adult women who are nationals or residents of any Latin American country. Applicants must have technical or professional STEM training, work in manufacturing or a related industry, and lead projects tied to innovation, sustainability, automation, digitalization or technological development. Eligible projects must include a prototype, pilot test or technical evidence, along with documentation confirming authorship and leadership.
A jury of 3M specialists and external experts from academic, scientific and industrial sectors will evaluate submissions based on social and industrial impact, innovation, feasibility, project maturity and the candidate’s professional trajectory. The 25 selected honorees will receive recognition from 3M, media visibility and inclusion in the “25 Women in Science 2026” digital book, which will feature a custom illustration. They will also gain access to dialogue spaces and networking opportunities with manufacturing leaders across the region.
Applications are open through Nov. 30, 2025, on the program’s website. The award ceremony will take place Feb. 11, 2026, in conjunction with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
