High-end designer Kate Hundley shares how to personalize your fall style with rich textures, bold colors and classic investment pieces that outlast the trends.

It is officially time to retire our beloved sundresses and sandals in favor of long coats and leather boots. As temperatures decline, fall fashion is on the rise. This year, it’s less about mainstream trends and more about how to personalize a look to you.

In an age where connection to the world is at the tap of a finger, fashion inspiration has never been more accessible. One way to elevate your winter wardrobe while staying warm is to experiment with layering and incorporate multiple textures. “Leather is my favorite material to work with,” Hundley says. “Our Charli Moto Jacket is in heavy rotation for me this season. It’s a classic biker in buttery soft nappa with belt details at the waist; it’s really beautiful.”

One thing about fashion: it’s constantly evolving. One way to save money this fall is to invest in classic pieces and style them in ways that follow trends, rather than buying a single fad piece. “I love when a piece feels specific and special but also somewhat timeless,” Hundley says. “Classic wardrobe staples with unexpected details or in a special material will always work.”

Along with texture experimentation, testing different color combinations is another way to make your outfits stand out. “Fall is a great season to play with color across layers and textures – chocolate, mid-brown, and taupe; black and chocolate; or head-to-toe red. Suede in neutral colors is still great,” Hundley explains.

Now with the tools to style your fall outfits, it’s time to put your fashion skills to the test. If you need some more inspiration, Hundley has some great recommendations. “For evening, I really love an elongated, sculpted silhouette. We have two dresses in the season that are draped columns of silk georgette with tonal sheer crinkle chiffon peeking out of the hem. For the lookbook, we styled the black version with a red tight underneath, and it is such an energizing twist.”
