Desmond Bane went off for a season-high 37 points on Friday night as Orlando finished 4-0 in East Group B of the NBA Cup with a 112-109 road win over the Detroit Pistons. Bane also had a pair of big offensive rebounds late as the Magic closed out the victory. Franz Wagner added 21 points while Anthony Black came off the bench for 16, and Wendell Carter Jr. grabbed 11 rebounds. Paolo Banchero remained sidelined with a groin injury and is day-to-day.
The Bulls’ losing streak reached three games when the Indiana Pacers got a bucket with a second remaining to hand Chicago a 103-101 road loss on Saturday night. Josh Giddey finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists, while Tre Jones came off the bench for 17 points as well, with Nicola Vučević scoring 16 points and Matas Buzelis snaring 11 boards. The banged-up Bulls played without key contributors Isaac Okoro (lumbar) and Coby White (calf), both listed as day-to-day.
Chicago visits Orlando for the second time this season after taking a 110-98 victory in the first meeting on Oct. 25. Wagner leads the Magic with an average of 22.8 points per game, while Bane gets 18.3 points a night. Jalen Suggs posts 13.7 points and 4.8 assists a night, and Carter puts up 12.1 points and 7.6 boards per contest. Giddey averages 20.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 9.3 assists for the Bulls, with Vučević scoring 16.4 points per game.
