Hugh Jackman speaks to 12 News at ‘Song Sung Blue’ movie premiere in Milwaukee
Hollywood star Hugh Jackman makes his Milwaukee debut at Oriental Theatre’s exclusive screening of ‘Song Sung Blue,’ drawing crowds of fans despite cold weather.
First I have to ask, how was the custard? It’s the first time I’ve ever had it. No, I don’t know why, but I I I’ve always wanted to have it, but it’s *** game changer. It really is, yeah, once you have it, it’s like you really go, oh, this isn’t just ice cream. Guys, thank you for spending some time here with us. I want to ask you what drew you to Mike Sardina, especially being involved in *** hometown film, getting the Milwaukee feeling here today. The story of lightning and thunder, Mike and Claire and their family, and I’m an extended family, was so inspiring to me. It’s this incredible underdog story of these people everyday real people with big, big, huge dreams that. Don’t give up, have incredible resilience and who show up for each other, you know, and they rescue each other in many ways, and it’s about the love of music and love of community, and I, and family. It’s about so many things that matter to me. And to all of us, but somehow being here tonight is somehow one of the most important of this whole journey because this is *** love letter to Milwaukee. It’s *** love letter to towns like Milwaukee or cities like Milwaukee all over the world. Craig, when it came down to directing *** film like this, it’s all based on storytelling, right? Character storytelling. How was it pitching this to producers, to everyone else involved to make this happen? Make this premiere. You know, you’d be surprised. *** lot of people in Hollywood turned it down and uh they turned it down because I think that they were just wondering like, you know, will people be interested and you know people in the middle of America and uh I’ve all my movies that I’ve done, I’ve always celebrated people that are like in in Memphis, Tennessee or small southern towns and I was like, you don’t understand. Like this is actually *** really inspiring story. This is actually the kind of. Movie that I when I was growing up in the 80s, you know, you, you watch, uh, you know, uh, you know, Footloose is basically about *** guy that’s just trying to get *** high school dance going and so it’s like these, these stories with people uh can really be inspiring if you just tackle it with the same kind of epic way that you would *** big superhero movie. Last question I have for you, the most powerful part for you to perform during Song Sung Blue? I think of all the songs, I mean in many ways the finale is very powerful, but there’s *** song Holy Holy, which I love, which is *** real turning point for Mike and Claire. I think that really touches me and very powerful in Milwaukee. Thank you so much for your time appreciate it.
