Sanrio fans have been able to enjoy the company’s classic characters in a variety of ways, from toys to other collectibles and even gaming devices. Now, they can party the night away with Hello Kitty and friends through a virtual experience that’s certain to end the year on a high note.
Virtual Sanrio Puroland is the company’s official VR amusement park, with Hello Kitty and the others all present for the planned festivities. Meant to increase engagement for the virtual attraction, the new event will let fans get in on the action with their favorite Sanrio mascots. These efforts match the increased branding presence for the company, which has previously seen massive success for its VR efforts.
Sanrio’s Latest Virtual Event Lets Fans Party With Hello Kitty & Friends
As the name suggests, Virtual Sanrio Puroland is a digitized equivalent to the actual Sanrio Puroland theme park in Tokyo. Known as one of the most expensive theme parks ever built, it’s sadly not nearly as well-known as more prominent attractions such as Disney World. To remedy this, Sanrio is making it easier than ever for fans around the world to enjoy the themed festivities that can be had in such a kawaii environment.
Starting on Dec. 11, 2025, Virtual Sanrio Puroland will offer a VR take on Sanrio’s fun theme park, and there are several ways to enjoy the occasion. Along with interacting with VR videos of rides and parades, participants can play various games and upload their virtual avatar to truly feel like part of the party. They won’t be the only ones involved, however, with several fan-favorite mascots there along for the proverbial and literal ride.
Hello Kitty, Pompompurin and Cinnamoroll will be just a few of the familiar Sanrio mascots seen at Virtual Sanrio Puroland, and they’ll be a part of the parades and other events that fans can take part in themselves. Also present in different forms will be the virtual YouTuber KizunaAI, with this furthering their presence in the VR community. Sanrio recommends using VR peripherals for the event alongside a computer, though many of the features will also work on a smartphone. While the overall event is free, some items and videos will have to be purchased separately.
This is all part of Sanrio’s continued growth in terms of both virtual events (having previously hosted virtual concerts and similar venues) and gaming, with gaming headsets and accessories featuring Sanrio characters being just a few of the company’s branded items in 2025. It’s also far from the first Virtual Sanrio Puroland Festival, with the initial event occurring in 2021.
