Driver rescued after car goes into Long Pond in Greece

Greece, N.Y. — A driver avoided serious injury Wednesday after her car went into Long Pond off the Lake Ontario State Parkway, according to Chief Jason France from the Lake Shore Fire District.

Reports of a vehicle in the water came in around 2:35 p.m.

France said bystanders were in the water attempting to free the woman from the car when first responders arrived.

First responders and bystanders got the woman out of the water and noticed items in the car that indicated a child may have been inside, according to France. They eventually determined no children had been in the car.

The car appeared to have left the road and gone airborne before crashing through ice near the shore, France said. The woman was taken to a local hospital but was conscious and able to move on her own.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
