First responders rescue person from car in pond in Greece

GREECE, N.Y. — The Lakeshore Fire District and other first responders rescued a driver from a car that was in the pond near Long Pond Road in Greece.

Chief Jason France from the Lakeshore Fire District said they responded to Long Pond at around 2:37 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a car in the water with people trapped. When crews got there, they found bystanders helping a person still in the car.

State Police and others got into the water to help. France said crews were able to get the driver, who was still conscious, and the bystanders who were helping out of the water. The driver was brought to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

When rescuing the driver, France said they noted items in the back of the car that indicated there may have been a child in the car.

France said first responders worked with family members to confirm the location of any associated children and searched the water out of caution.

All children were accounted for, France said. He says no children were in the car at the time, with two children at school, and the other was being cared for by a loved one.
