TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium is celebrating its 50th anniversary by inviting the Tucson community to a free event. The celebration will feature free planetarium shows, science exhibit admissions and interactive historical explorations
The event will take place on Dec. 13 at the planetarium, 1601 E. University Blvd., on the University of Arizona campus. Same-day tickets are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Guests can explore the newly renovated science center, including the latest Universe of Science exhibit. “Flandrau staff will be offering astrobiology demonstrations and activities,” the press release stated.
The event will also showcase a temporary Flandrau History Exhibit and a preview of the upcoming Mysteries of the Cosmos exhibit, set to open in spring 2026. Permanent exhibits like Undersea Discovery and Wild World of Bugs will be available, alongside free hourly planetarium shows.
Originally opened in 1975, Flandrau was funded by a bequest from Grace H. Flandrau. It has evolved into a full-fledged science center, recently recognized as the fourth-best planetarium in the U.S. by USA Today readers.
