School of Music faculty perform as feature soloists for inaugural season of Jimmy H. Baker Center for the Arts

Two members of the Troy University’s John M. Long School of Music faculty performed in a production as part of the inaugural season for the Jimmy H. Baker Center for the Arts on Enterprise State Community College’s (ESCC) campus.

Dr. Heather Small, Associate Professor of Flute, and Dr. Ben Crook, Associate Professor of Music and Collaborative Piano, performed as featured soloists in ESCC’s production of “The Carnival of the Animals,” a ballet by Camille Saint-Saens on Friday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov 8. Devon “Storm” Turley, a music education major from Enterprise, Alabama also participated in the performance.

Dr. Heather Small appreciated both performing in the ballet and seeing the community’s response.

“It was a beautiful event to bring together students, community members, and professionals for this ballet at the new Baker Center for the Arts,” said Dr. Small. It was also fun to perform a flute excerpt for ‘The Aviary’ with the orchestra. One of my favorite shows was our performance for local elementary students because they were so excited to cheer on their classmates playing in the orchestra and dancing on stage.”

The Jimmy H. Baker Center for the Arts opened in September 2025 and seats 600.
