As a New Yorker, I’m lucky enough to get fashion inspiration whenever I leave the house. I rounded up the pieces I’ve noticed NYC cool girls wearing again and again, like these three can’t-miss items:
My favorite part about living in New York City is that whenever I need a bit of fashion inspiration, all I have to do is leave my apartment. I love how every neighborhood offers its own aesthetic energy. If I’m looking for a lesson on off-duty model couture, I poke around the streets of SoHo; and if I’m looking to brush up on slightly grittier trends with a Gen-Z slant, nothing beats people watching through the window of a Lower East Side wine bar. When I’m looking for some rich-girl creative fuel, loitering around the West Village and Upper East Side does the trick.
Despite the subtle stylistic differences across NYC neighborhoods, there are a couple dozen trends that I see crop up again and again. Some of them I recognize from Pinterest, and others I only know from keeping my eyes peeled IRL, like this decisively adorable pair of Ugg Mary Janes and ultra warm longline puffer jackets.

Ugg Bea Mary Jane Shoes
Amazon
You probably already know Ugg shoes are having a major resurgence (just ask Sarah Jessica Parker and Gigi Hadid), but there’s so much more to shop than the Ugg Tazz II—the platform slipper every It Girl owns. In NYC, I’ve been seeing tons of people wearing the Ugg Bea Mary Janes, and at first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about them. Even as a die-hard Mary Jane fan, the vision didn’t immediately click. But after watching how people styled them with flare jeans and ankle-grazing trenches, I fell completely in love. They’re unique, on-trend, and genuinely fun.
Levi’s 94 Baggy Jeans
Amazon
Everyone in New York is wearing Levi’s—which has been true for decades and isn’t changing anytime soon. While the heritage denim brand offers countless cuts, the 94 Baggy Jeans are the pair I’m seeing everywhere. They’re versatile, durable, and available in a host of washes.
Amazon Essentials Oversized Long Puffer Jacket
Amazon
Not only are puffer jackets non-negotiable in NYC from a practical standpoint, but they’re also a linchpin of Big Apple fashion. It’s pretty standard to switch between a long, wool trench and a heavier duty puffer depending on the weather, and every cool girl has both in her closet. I really like this cozy one from Amazon Essentials for its slightly oversized fit and thigh-grazing length.
Btfbm Ribbed Crewneck Sweater
Amazon
The It Girl sweater of the season is without a doubt J.Crew’s Rollneck Sweater, but at almost $100, it’s not exactly a no-brainer. This lookalike from Btfbm on the other hand? It accomplishes the rich-girl energy of the original sweater for less than half the price.
JW Pei Gabbi Ruched Handbag
Amazon
JW Pei (an Oprah-loved brand) recently opened a brick and mortar store in SoHo, which was huge for me and the girlies of NYC. I love all of its bags—especially when they’re on sale. This ruched style is adorable and such an easy way to up the ante on a casual outfit.
Frye and Co. Miranda 14 Boots
Amazon
Frye and Co.’s Miranda 14 Boots are basically the spitting image of the Frye and Co. Campus Boots, which are the shoes of 2025. It almost feels like Frye made a mistake pricing these because it doesn’t make sense how affordable they are compared to their twin (78 percent less expensive, to be exact). The banana yellow color is a favorite, but a classic black will also get you a ton of mileage. Sort of a “can’t go wrong” situation if you ask me.
Rothy’s The Casual Clogs
Amazon
Every NYC cool girl is wearing Rothy’s, be it flats, Mary Janes, or these slip-ons. They’re breathable, machine washable, and have been worn by Jennifer Lawrence and Olivia Munn. I adore the tortoise shell outsoles, too.
