HOUSTON – Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker could be available for the Dec. 10 NBA Cup quarterfinal game at defending NBA champion Oklahoma City after suffering a right groin strain on Dec. 1 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
“We’ll continue to assess him day-by-day, but he’s been through this before,” Ott said. “So he knows exactly where he’s at and his body and he’s made good progress in a short amount of time.”
Booker strained his right groin in the first quarter of Phoenix’s 125-108 road victory over the Lakers and didn’t return. He’s averaging 25 points and 6.7 assists this season.
Two days later, the Suns released an update saying Booker would be re-evaluated in one week. Phoenix plays the Thunder a week from Dec. 3 on Dec. 10.
“If his body is feeling good and he’s in a good place, he’ll absolutely be available,” said Ott about the OKC rematch as Phoenix lost, 123-119, in NBA Cup group play last month in Oklahoma City.
Booker made the trip to Houston as the Suns face the Rockets on Dec. 5 at Toyota Center. Phoenix then plays at Minnesota on Dec. 8 before taking on the Thunder two days later.
Booker has dealt with injuries to his left groin last season and the 2022-23 season when he missed 21 consecutive games.
