The Game Awards 2025 presentation is nearly upon us. It’s scheduled to begin on December 11, 2025.
As always, we’re expecting a number of game announcements to happen during the event. Even us fighting game fans will likely be rewarded for paying attention to the livestream as reveals happen.
Back in 2024, an interesting leak concerning fighting games made its rounds on the internet. A number of these “predictions” ended up coming true in some form, but there are still a few concepts that haven’t dropped yet.
To begin, this leak suggested that M. Bison, Sagat, C. Viper, Elena, Alex, Terry Bogard and Mai Shirnaui were being worked on for Season 2 of Street Fighter 6 about a month before four of these characters actually did get announced.
Sagat, C. Viper and Alex then got announced for Season 3 after the conclusion of Season 2 content for Street Fighter 6. Of course, Ingrid was also part of the Season 3 roster, though she never got mentioned in this reported leak.
The person that relayed this information beforehand also claimed that Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves would feature Street Fighter characters in it. It was beginning to look like this person was going beyond just making lucky guesses as Ken and Chun-LI were the first DLC combatants announced for the SNK fighting game.
Perhaps this leak’s most outlandish claim (at the time) was that Arc System Works was working on a new Marvel fighting game. Over a year later, this also ended up coming to fruition with Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls.
However, the leaker also declared that the game would be revealed within just a few months of the posting time. Additionally, it was supposed to be released before the end of 2024.
Considering that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has only had eight characters revealed thus far, it feels like the game is nowhere near ready to be launched. Therefore, at least that part of the leak ended up being inaccurate.
It’s also been alleged that Marvel vs. Capcom 5 was set to be announced here in 2025. Following this, it’s supposedly set to be released in 2026.
Capcom vs. SNK 3 is said to be Capcom’s next fighting game after Marvel vs. Capcom 5. This suggests that Capcom and SNK have been working towards this upcoming title with the guest appearances in Street Fighter 6 and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.
For the part about Marvel vs. Capcom 5 being revealed in 2025 and then released in 2026, it feels like The Game Awards 2025 presentation could be the last chance for such an announcement to happen.
Of course, this assumes that the timeline of events is still set to happen the way the original leaker suggested, but Marvel Tokon ended up not getting released before the end of 2024 anyhow.
In general, it also just feels odd that there could be two competing fighting games that utilize the Marvel IP out at the same time. Still, the near correct predictions concerning Street Fighter 6 Season 2, Street Fighter 6 Season 3, Fatal Fury featuring Street Fighter guest characters and how Arc System Works is working on a Marvel fighting game can’t be easily ignored.

For me personally, I think the person that originally leaked this information did have insider information on many points, but it feels a bit too farfetched that we’d get Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls and Marvel vs. Capcom 5 out on the market in roughly the same timespan.
Ultimately, we’ll just have to see how things play out with The Game Awards 2025 livestream as it happens on December 11. As always, we’ll be reporting on anything that could be of interest to the fighting game community here on EventHubs.
