Bowl season is upon us as three of our four “Big Four” teams prepare for postseason play. WAKE FOREST After an 8-4 season, Wake Forest is headed to Charlotte for the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. The Deacons will be facing Mississippi State at Bank of America Stadium on Friday, Jan. 2, at 8 p.m.“Earning the opportunity to compete in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl is a tremendous honor for our football program. Bowl games are a reward for commitment and consistency, and our players and staff have earned every bit of this moment,” said head coach Jake Dickert. “We are excited for the challenge against a talented Mississippi State program, and I’m grateful to Will Pitts and his staff for the invitation. We’re ready to represent Wake Forest, and we can’t wait to see Demon Deacon Nation in Charlotte!”DUKE After winning the ACC Championship over Virginia on Saturday, Duke is headed to the Sun Bowl to take on Arizona State. Despite winning the conference, the Blue Devils did not get a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoffs. The Sun Bowl will be played on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. NC STATE NC State is set to face off with Memphis in the Gasparilla Bowl on Dec. 19 in Tampa. The Wolfpack finished the season at 7-5 while the Tigers were 8-4 in the AAC. This marks the sixth-consecutive bowl game under head coach Dave Doeren. EAST CAROLINAEast Carolina is headed to the Military Bowl to play Pittsburgh in Annapolis on Dec. 27. This will be the fifth meeting between the two programs with the series being tied at two-all dating back to 1984. APP STATE Appalachian State fills the 82nd & final bowl spot, created when Notre Dame opted out. The Mountaineers are headed to the Birmingham Bowl is rematch of Nov. 6 game against Georgia Southern that will kickoff Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. App finished the regular season with a 5-7.
