The first of the new exhibits at the Kamin Science Center (formerly the Carnegie Science Center) is opening this weekend and it looks like a major crowd-pleaser for families.
Sports360 opens this Saturday, Dec. 13, with a Family-Friendly Tailgate Celebration kicking off at 10 a.m. and running until 5 p.m.
At the party, included with a general admission ticket to the Science Center, kids can dance to music by the official DJ for Pitt football and volleyball, visit with all the Pittsburgh sports mascots, take a selfie with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds’ new USL championship trophy and spend plenty of time exploring this incredible new exhibit.

At 9,500 square feet, Sports360 is the largest long-term exhibition at the Science Center. It’s designed to immerse visitors in the science of athletic performance through nearly 25 hands-on discovery stations across four areas: Prepare, Practice, Participate and Go Pro.
Kids can:
- dash, jump, weave and race hrough NFL Combine-inspired challenges
- test their accuracy, reaction time and instincts through sports simulators
- drive a virtual Zamboni, investigate biomechanics and experience the physics behind power and motion
- discover how athletes train, adapt and compete

But the learning isn’t confined to physical experiences. Sports360 was designed for all ages and abilities, so that everyone has a chance to test their body and brain.
Sports 360 is the first step in the Science Center’s transformation. Upcoming exhibits and changes include The Science of Speed, located in the museum’s former SportsWorks building, plus a STEM exhibition called Building Futures, a climate-related exhibition called Responsive Science, an installation called The Universe in 75 Feet, a huge Outdoor Engagement Park and an expanded space for early learners.
