Each of Swift’s 12 albums is now available in Spatial Audio
To celebrate the release of Taylor Swift’s new six-episode docuseries, The End of an Era, and concert film, Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The Final Show, Apple Music is offering fans an unprecedented listening experience.
For the first time, the global pop star’s six seminal albums—Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation—are now available in immersive Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos.
This addition completes Swift’s standard catalog on Apple Music in Spatial Audio. Since the early days of iTunes and the launch of Apple Music ten years ago, Apple has been dedicated to delivering the best audio experience. Spatial Audio is a revolutionary technology that allows sound to move all around the listener, offering a deeper and more immersive connection to the music.
In a monumental triumph that sent reverberations across the music industry, Swift announced in May that she acquired her entire original Big Machine master recordings from private equity firm Shamrock Capital. The long-awaited victory marked the culmination of a years-long, highly public battle for artistic ownership and delivered a resounding message about artist empowerment in the digital age.
For years, Swift was at odds with Big Machine Label Group over the acquisition of the masters for her first six albums. In 2019, current label owner Scooter Braun, who owns Ithaca Holdings LLC, purchased the label mid-2019, and sold it to Shamrock Holdings for upwards of $300 million. Swift says she had attempted to purchase the masters to no avail while also being caught up in live performing rights of the same songs. She decided to re-record her first six projects, four of which have been released, and broke records with her fans clamoring for more.
The news, confirmed through Swift’s social media and official channels, was met with an outpouring of support from fans, industry peers, and legal experts alike. Swift had meticulously re-recorded four of the six albums that were at the heart of the dispute, while she claimed she kept “hitting a stopping point” when trying to recreate Reputation.
In the fall of 2023, Bloomberg crowned Swift a billionaire due to the success of her massive Eras Tour and album re-records. Earlier this year, the Recording Industry Association of America named Swift the first and only female artist in history to surpass 100 million RIAA-certified album units. Swift is also the only artist in the top 10 for both highest-certified album artists and highest-certified digital single artists.
