We asked for your views on Celtic’s 3-0 defeat against Roma in the Europa League, which marks back-to-back defeats for new manager Wilfried Nancy.
Here’s what some of you said:
Patrick: Welcome to Celtic. You don’t get time or patience, as it stands Nancy is Celtic’s worst manager in history. Look at how that worked out across the city. Nancy needs to win the cup final or at least show drastic improvement rather than stubbornness sticking to a formation which the squad doesn’t know. The clock is ticking.
Sean: The only player that showed any fight or heart was Kelechi Iheanacho who played only 45 minutes. Painful to watch, always looking to go back not forward. Get players who want out, out and start again. Bringing a manager in this week was insane from the board once again.
Christine: Horror show. Die-hard fan but had to switch off after 40 minutes. Incredible to think this is same team who, only few weeks ago, outplayed Feyenoord. Where has all the confidence gone? I’m well aware we’re two games into his tenure but he’s just not the right fit for a Celtic manager.
Gerry: Been a fan for over 50 years, that is the first time I have left the stadium early with 16 minutes still to play. Coincidentally four minutes after Dermot Desmond left his seat, I was sat near the board! Awful display. The new manager is going to do to Celtic what Russell Martin did to Rangers. The players look so out of touch with this new system they are being asked to play.
Alex: Most fans already know this is a poor Celtic team and playing against a team as good as Roma was always going to be a sore experience, it was a lesson and thankfully it was only three. Let’s not get on the manager’s back too soon. Give the man time to implement his ideas and get his players. The whole thing needs a rebuild from the boardroom to the players.
Nick: The outcome of the game was entirely predictable after Sunday’s defeat by Hearts. We were lucky it wasn’t a heavier defeat. After six weeks of Martin O’Neill rebuilding confidence and getting us to the most important week of the season so far in good shape, those running the club have committed an act of monumental self-sabotage. This was not the week to change manager and introduce a completely new system. In the long-term, Nancy may well be the right choice but this was the wrong week to appoint him. Those running the club have failed the fans, players and set the new manager up for a fall.
