Avatar: Fire and Ash is now ablaze in theaters, with the ongoing story of Jake Sully and the survival of the indigenous Na’vi in the face of colonizing, space-faring humans. This time, audiences witness the emergence of the Mangkwan, a violent clan dwelling near the volcanic fires of Pandora.
It is well-documented that James Cameron intends his Avatar saga to span a total of five movies. A fourth, still-untitled sequel is already partially shot, and production will resume once Avatar: Fire and Ash has opened in theaters. (So, probably Monday!) So what’s going to happen in Avatar 4, set for theatrical release on December 21, 2029? How might Avatar: Fire and Ash set it up? Let’s break it down.

What Happened at the End of Avatar: Fire and Ash?
In so few words: A lot.
But the basic gist is that the Sullys (who stick together) rally the Metkayina with the Tulkun to save Pandora for at least another day. There were heavy casualties on all sides, not only the Na’vi and the sentient wildlife but the heavily armed RDA as well, who are determined to see their investment colonizing the planet through.
The menacing Varang, played by Oona Chaplin, survives the end of Avatar: Fire and Ash. You can bet she’ll bring her fiery wrath to Avatar 4.
