James Cameron has ensured that no matter what happens, we will know what happens to the Na’vi. The director explained that even if he, God forbid, decides to no longer make Avatar movies, he’ll still tell everyone what happens to Jake Sully. “I don’t know if the saga goes beyond this point. I hope it does,” Cameron began in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “But, you know, we prove that business case every time we go out.” Avatar: Fire and Ash has already made close to half a billion dollars globally, and that’s before the Christmas boost. But even if Disney decides to bow out of a fourth Avatar win, Cameron has a plan set in place so all of the fans know what Chef Cameron was cooking up. “Here’s what it is,” he shared. “If we don’t get to make 4 and 5, for whatever reason, I’ll hold a press conference, and I’ll tell you what we were gonna do. How’s that?” I will one-up you, Mr. Cameron: how about a puppet show acting out the fourth movie? Regardless, he has so much more to say about the world of Pandora, adding, “There’s so much culture and backstory and lateral detail in these characters that’s been worked out. I’d love to do something that’s at that level of granular detail.”
If a press conference or a puppet show doesn’t work (James, think about it…), he would novelize the world of Avatar into a book series. But he’s less than hopeful for that outcome, he said, “There’s no business model for it anymore. People aren’t reading.” Maybe they would if there were an Avatar series by James Cameron; it doesn’t hurt to try.
