PlayStation 6 Price Tag Has Gamers On Edge Already

Exactly how much will the PlayStation 6 cost? It’s a question that’s causing gamers to sweat already. In a world where prices for pretty much everything continue to rocket upwards, it doesn’t take a genius to see the next-gen consoles won’t come cheap.

With things the way they are, and current-gen hardware increasing in price as it is, PlayStation gamers are looking to the future and beginning to fear the worst.

How Much Will The PlayStation 6 Cost?

We’ll have to wait and see

We don’t officially know how much the PlayStation 6 is set to cost yet, but let’s look at what we do know. The PlayStation 5 launched in the US at $499, though as of August 2025 it has gone up to an eye-watering $549.99. The PlayStation 5 Pro, meanwhile, launched at $699, and has gone up to a frankly ridiculous $749.99.

It’s the PS5 Pro price that I think has us the most scared. It’s safe to assume that the PlayStation 6 will be a more demanding console than the PS5 Pro, which very likely means it will cost more. That means we’re looking at a minimum of $700 for the next-gen PlayStation. For context, that’s what most experts believe Valve is going to charge for the Steam Machine.

“The PlayStation 6 really is going to be a $700 console on release isn’t it?” writes one fan on Reddit.

Another asks: “How on Earth are they going to price a PS6?”

There is hope, at least a bit

Recent leaks suggest the PlayStation 6 will actually be more affordable than the PlayStation 5 Pro. The cheaper cost and better performance are said to be down to the AMD RDNA 5 GPU, which is on par with the RTX 4080 graphics card that PC users will know all about.

It’s worth noting, however, that AMD is raising a lot of its prices. Whether this could impact Sony’s work on the PlayStation 6 and its overall price remains to be seen. But the major takeaway here is the world is a bit of a mess right now, and we can’t quite predict what’s going to happen in a month, let alone by the PS6’s rumored release window of 2028.

For now, we’ll just have to wait for official word and hope for the best. But if you want a PlayStation 6 at launch, I’d suggest you start saving now.
