You might not immediately think of Greece as a winter sports destination, yet each year the country’s mountains quietly deliver some of southeastern Europe’s most accessible and rewarding skiing. From dramatic alpine landscapes to family-friendly slopes within easy reach of major cities, Greece’s ski centers offer a distinctive winter experience – and the 2025-2026 season is now officially underway.
The Hellenic Public Properties Company (ETAD), a subsidiary of the Hellenic Corporation of Assets and Participations, has announced the opening of the Parnassos and Voras-Kaimaktsalan ski resorts, marking the start of another season focused on mountain sports and the great outdoors.
Voras-Kaimaktsalan Ski Resort in northern Greece became the first ski center in the country to open this season, welcoming skiers on Sunday, December 21. Known for its high altitude – among the highest in Greece – and its dramatic setting near the border with North Macedonia, Kaimaktsalan offers reliable snow conditions, sweeping views and a more rugged, alpine feel. The wider area is also popular for winter hiking and for its nearby hot springs, making it an appealing destination even for non-skiers.
Parnassos Ski Resort – the largest and most popular ski destination in Greece – followed on December 23. Spread across the slopes of Mount Parnassos and within easy driving distance of Athens, the resort has long been a favorite for day-trippers, families, and experienced skiers. Its extensive network of runs caters to all levels, while its modern lift system, lively atmosphere, and proximity to the popular Alpine town of Arachova make it a cornerstone of Greece’s winter tourism scene.
Following extensive preparation works, technical inspections and infrastructure upgrades, both ski resorts are now fully operational under ETAD’s management. As in previous seasons, daily operations will be adjusted according to weather conditions, with safety remaining the primary consideration in the running of lifts and slopes.
Visitors this winter can also expect improved facilities across both resorts, including enhanced accessibility for people with disabilities and the installation of electric vehicle charging stations, supporting a more inclusive and sustainable mountain tourism experience.

“The teams of the Parnassos and Voras-Kaimaktsalan ski resorts, together with ETAD, welcome visitors to a winter season of high expectations and unique experiences at two of Greece’s most popular mountain destinations,” ETAD said.
While Parnassos and Kaimaktsalan are among Greece’s most prominent ski destinations, they form part of a wider network of ski and snowboarding centers stretching across the country – from Central Greece and Epirus to Macedonia and the Peloponnese – many of which combine skiing with traditional mountain cuisine, scenic villages, and year-round outdoor activities.
