Skopje – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has signed an agreement with ProCredit Bank for a guarantee of up to 25 million euros, to cover 50 percent of the risk for new loans to finance small and medium-sized enterprises in North Macedonia in a total amount of up to 50 million euros.
The guarantee is supported by technical assistance from the European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus and in this way the EBRD and the EU, by sharing part of the risk, help ProCredit to strengthen its resilience and increase lending.
The lending is intended for the business sector that does not have sufficient access to financing, primarily businesses run by women and young entrepreneurs, rural small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as projects to strengthen inclusive economic development.
According to the EBRD representative for North Macedonia, Fatih Turkmenoglu, this partnership supported by the European Union marks an important step towards expanding access to finance for less supported businesses in the country.
– By sharing the risk and introducing innovative financial tools with specifically approved technical assistance, we help small and medium-sized enterprises to invest with confidence in their own growth and resilience. This represents inclusive and sustainable financing by the EBRD, which is committed to advancing the entire Western Balkans, said Turkmenoglu.
The EBRD is the leading institutional investor in North Macedonia, with more than 3 billion euros invested in support of sustainable development, infrastructure, private sector growth and the country’s regional integration. (30 December 2025)
