Retail stores across Greece are operating on special holiday hours on New Year’s Eve, allowing shoppers to make last-minute purchases before the New Year.
On Tuesday, December 31, most retail shops are open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Nationwide, stores will remain closed on New Year’s Day, January 1, as well as on January 2, which is traditionally reserved for annual inventory checks by businesses.
Supermarkets are following extended schedules on New Year’s Eve, with most major chains remaining open into the evening. According to announced timetables, several leading supermarket brands will operate from early morning until 8:00 p.m., while one discount chain opens slightly earlier in the day.
The Athens Trade Association noted that the festive schedule is indicative rather than mandatory, meaning individual retailers may adjust their hours based on operational needs. Shoppers are therefore advised to check locally if they plan to visit smaller or independent stores.
