Spurs lasso big ratings for NBA, network on Christmas Day

Victor Wembanyama and Co. helped make the NBA and one of its broadcast partners very merry on Christmas Day.

The Spurs’ 117-102 win over the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder last Thursday averaged 6.71 million viewers across ABC/ESPN, making it the most viewed second game of Christmas Day since 2017 and the most-watched game for the league’s marquee holiday lineup, according to Nielsen Big Data + Panel, the NBA announced Wednesday.

De’Aaron Fox scored a game-high 29 points in his Christmas Day debut to lead the Spurs, who improved to 3-0 this season against the Thunder.

The Christmas Day games reached 47.19M unique viewers, making it the most-watched Christmas Day since 2010 when excluding 2011 (2011-12 season began on Christmas Day) and up 45% year-over-year.

With Wembanyama leading them, the Spurs are sure to land even more Christmas Day games in the future after losing to the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden in 2024 and beating Oklahoma City this season.
