Riot Games, the developer and publisher of League of Legends, has teased their plans for the game coming after 2026. On the League of Legends X account, Riot Games posted a video teasing some big updates to League of Legends.
While Riot Games didn’t reveal the specifics of their plans for the game after 2026, they did reveal big changes. First and foremost, Riot Games is planning a big update to the League of Legends client coming after next year. They stated that they’re working on a new around game client that’s fully integrated with League of Legends’ in-game experience.
League of Legends finally getting a new client is really big news because the game’s been using a 15-year-old client. Furthermore, the current client has been known to be buggy with the in-game and out-game client currently being separate clients. A new, fully integrated client would properly modernize League of Legends, bringing it more in line with the standards today. This also means League of Legends might be getting a client that’s similar with other Riot games such as VALORANT.
Additionally, besides getting a new client after 2026, the developers also said they’re working on a couple of other things. This includes an overhaul of Summoner’s Rift, some changes to the rune system, and an overhauled new player experience system.
League of Legends has consistently been one of the world’s most popular games a few years after its initial release. Hearing Riot Games working on these big changes to their very first game might help extend its already impressive longevity.
