New landscape for railways in Greece

Greek railways are entering a new era, with the commission of new trains up to 2027 and the revision of the contract between the Greek state and Hellenic Train, signed after months of negotiations, with specific safety clauses, financial obligations and binding timetables.

Although the contract for the concession of public service obligations to the Italian-owned operating company does not include to date any details on services and investment implementation timetables, it does provide for investments of 420 million euros, of which €308 million concerns Hellenic Train’s spending for the purchase of 23 trains from Alstom.
