The John Wick and Saw franchises might finally get high quality video game adaptations in the coming years.
Fans of the Keanu Reeves action franchise John Wick and the classic gore-horror movie franchise Saw can brace themselves for potentially high-tier AAA video games inspired from these universes.
Lionsgate movie executive Adam Fogelsen has mentioned increased interest in regards to gaming opportunities within the studio, name dropping John Wick and Saw in the pool. He also hinted at more films that may venture into gaming, though they “will be announced soon.”
The revelation came from the Lionsgate Studios Q2 2026 Earnings Call, where Fogelsen responded to a question about IP monetization in increasing the studio’s revenue. Fogelsen responded that Lionsgate is looking at each individual opportunity where some cases are a no-risk licensing opportunity and some where they take an investment position.
The exec highlighted the continuing success of John Wick Live play in Las Vegas, which moved Lionsgate to take the franchise in other directions.
“Our AAA game opportunities and other gaming opportunities around John Wick and Saw and some others that we’ll be announcing soon, we’re seeing increased interest and increased opportunity, and we remain on schedule. So I think in totality, you are going to see a meaningfully additive financial opportunity coming in the coming years,” Fogelsen revealed.
John Wick and Saw may finally get high caliber adaptations
The John Wick franchise has only been seen in the video game bubble several times, though none of them are major appearances. John Wick was featured in a Fortnite collaboration. Two games were also inspired by the franchise, those being John Wick Hex and its VR version. However, John Wick Hex received a lukewarm reception at launch and was delisted from digital stores last July, likely due to an expiration in licensing.
Meanwhile Saw’s upcoming adaptation is a less surprising project, with previous leaks and rumors already sparking hope. Back in September 2023, an alleged insider called “The Tipster” mentioned that a single-player survival game inspired by Saw, code named “Project Gideon,” is in the works. While he stated that the single-player version is already approved, another pitched multiplayer version remains in discussions, and could also be in development.
The Saw franchise also had video game adaptations, released in 2009 and 2010. With that being over 15 years ago, it sounds about time that we get a third installment to the series. Plus, producers of the film franchise had confirmed their commitment to the idea, saying “it will 100% happen” in a Reddit AMA in November 2021.
While only Saw and John Wick were specifically mentioned, other Lionsgate franchises may also see an entrance in video games, such as the major hit series The Hunger Games and Now You See Me.
