The Los Angeles Lakers will host the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, Jan. 2, as they look to start 2026 off on the right foot after a shaky end to December that saw them drop four of their last five games and seven of their last 12. The Lakers have an opportunity to right the ship in the first of a two-game set against the Grizzlies this weekend; the two teams will tip-off again on Sunday, Jan. 4 in Memphis.
In their final game of 2025, the Lakers (20-11; fifth in West) competed with the Detroit Pistons (25-9; first in East) through three quarters on Tuesday, but an accumulation of Detroit’s physicality, frustrations over turnovers and perceived officiating, and injuries led to a fourth-quarter spiral that resulted in a 128-106 Lakers loss.
The Grizzlies (15-18; ninth in West) also lost on Tuesday as a last second 3-pointer in overtime by rookie VJ Edgecombe stole a 139-136 Philadelphia 76ers win and nullified a 44-point gem by Ja Morant.
