Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey is enjoying an MVP-caliber season, emerging as one of the league’s top floor generals.
The former first-round pick leads the NBA in minutes played and boasts the second-most games with 25+ points (24), trailing only reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
En route to a career year, Maxey, who leads all Eastern Conference guards in All-Star voting, could shatter the Sixers’ franchise record for three-pointers made in a single season.
The lightning-quick Sixers guard is on pace for a career-high 304 three-pointers made this season. Currently, JJ Redick holds the Sixers franchise record with 204 three-pointers made in single-season, doing so in 2018.
Maxey poured in four more three-pointers during the New Year’s Day matchup against the Dallas Mavericks, finishing with a game-high 34 points and 10 assists, showing no signs of slowing down in his pursuit of history.
“He’s an All-Star. He’s one of the young, promising players in this league,” Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said of Maxey. “I’ve always said this about him — he’s always added something to his game.”

Maxey already established himself as a budding star during his All-Star campaign in 2023, but his game has evolved to another level this season.
The former Kentucky standout is averaging a career-high 30.9 points and 7.2 assists. He is the only Eastern Conference player averaging 30 points or more per game.
His on-court success can largely be attributed to his efficiency from long range, where he is averaging 9.3 three-point attempts per game.
His 110 three-pointers made this season are tied for the fourth-most in the league.
Already possessing blinding speed and the ability to finish at the rim with ease, Maxey’s progression into one of the league’s best three-point shooters makes him one of the NBA’s most complete scorers.

ESPN insider Ramona Shelburne revealed on NBA Today that the Sixers internally pivoted over the summer, recognizing Maxey as “the franchise now.” She noted: “I think the feeling is that this is Tyrese Maxey’s team… the Sixers had to pivot — and it turns out Tyrese Maxey is really good, and he is the franchise now.”
So far this season, Maxey has justified his position as Philly’s new alpha.
The former first-round pick has been the engine of the Sixers’ offense, consistently leading the team in scoring while averaging a league-high 39.9 minutes per game.
From the first whistle to the last, Maxey’s breakneck pace never wanes, and his production has him primed for his second career All-Star appearance.
“I would guarantee his pace is a lot faster than my pace these days,” Lakers star LeBron James said of Maxey in December. “But I love the success and the humbleness that Tyrese does it at, and that starts with his family. He’s just taking full advantage of the opportunity here and he’s made the most of it.
Should Maxey continue his torrid pace, it won’t be long before he stands alone atop the Sixers franchise leaderboard for most three-pointers made in a single season — a feat he’s on pace to shatter before the playoffs.
