Warriors Get Concerning Injury Update On Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry is listed as questionable on the official injury report for the Golden State Warriors’ game on Friday, January 2.

The Golden State Warriors will face the reigning NBA champions at home on Friday, January 2, but they may be without their best player.

Stephen Curry is listed as questionable with a left ankle sprain on the official injury report. He had 26 points, two rebounds and four assists on 56.3% shooting from the field and 50% shooting from beyond the arc in a 132-125 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday, December 31.

Curry, 37, is having another solid season, averaging a team high 28.7 points per game. He is also averaging four rebounds and 4.3 assists while shooting 46.8% from the field and 39.4% from three.

Is Stephen Curry Playing Tonight?

Curry has missed time this season with a right ankle injury, but his current designation is related to his left ankle, an injury he appears to have picked up on Wednesday. The Warriors are going to need most of their key players to compete with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday, but with the game being the first of a back-to-back for Golden State, the team may opt to give its superstar some rest.

Golden State won’t take any chances with Curry if he is not feeling 100%. The Warriors will likely evaluate him in the hours before tonight’s game before making a final decision on his status. If Curry is out today, Pat Spencer and Will Richard will be in line for more minutes.

Draymond Green (rest) and Seth Curry (left sciatic nerve irritation) have already been ruled out for tonight’s contest. Al Horford (right sciatic nerve irritation) and Trayce Jackson-Davis (right knee patellar tendonitis) are probable.

Golden State Warriors Gaining Momentum

Curry’s ailment comes at an inopportune time for Golden State (18-15) because of both the matchup with Oklahoma City and the Warrior’s recent run of success. The team has won five out of its last six games and is now three games behind the Minnesota Timberwolves for sixth in the Western Conference standings.

The Warriors have been rumored to be wanting to add players at the NBA trade deadline through a deal of forward Jonathan Kuminga. Golden State needs another big man and a wing scorer, with Daniel Gafford, Robert Williams, Michael Porter Jr. and Klay Thompson all possible fits for a playoff push.

The Warriors should be able to pick up another win on Saturday, January 3 at home against the Utah Jazz, but they will travel to play the surging Los Angeles Clippers and Milwaukee Bucks at the beginning of next week.
