PS5 Possibly Getting AAA Games Based on Major Movies

A recent update from film production company Lionsgate suggests that the PS5 may get AAA games based on some of its most popular movie franchises.

PS5 could get AAA games based on Saw and John Wick movies

In a recent Lionsgate earnings call (H/T TweakTown), Chairman of Motion Picture Group Adam Fogelson mentioned the company is looking into creating AAA games based on some of its film franchises. Specifically, he mentions the lauded Keanu Reeves-led John Wick and the long-running horror franchise Saw. Fogelson also mentions that these projects will be announced “soon.”

“Our AAA game opportunities, and other gaming opportunities around John Wick and Saw and some others that we’ll be announcing soon . . . we’re seeing increased interest and increased opportunity, and we remain on schedule,” said Fogelson.

“So I think in totality, you are going to see a meaningfully additive financial opportunity coming in the coming years,” Fogelson continued.

Beyond the mention of John Wick and Saw, there are no details on what these games could be. John Wick has received video game adaptations recently, including John Wick Hex and John Wick Chronicles. Back in 2009, Saw was adapted into a video game that was released for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. A sequel titled Saw 2: Flesh & Blood was released the following year for the same console platforms, but never received a PC version.

A popular way major movie franchises have extended their universes is through video games. Titles like Hogwarts Legacy, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and Marvel’s Spider-Man are just a few examples of licensed games that successfully adapt some of the most beloved IP. Lionsgate has tons of commercially successful film franchises that could be adapted to a video game, like Rambo, The Hunger Games, or Twilight.

2026 has several highly anticipated licensed games coming down the pipeline, including Marvel’s Wolverine, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and 007 First Light.
