Westbrook had a strange start to the 2025-2026 NBA season.

Over the summer, he declined his second-year player option with the Denver Nuggets. The guard noted that the Nuggets preferred he hit the open market. Therefore, he opted out and waited for his next opportunity, which didn’t come until October.
The Sacramento Kings added Westbrook after the preseason had already started. They initially planned to use the veteran guard as Dennis Schroder’s backup, but it wouldn’t be long before Westbrook was inserted into the Kings’ starting five. He’s been building on his Hall of Fame-worthy career.

The next player who could challenge Westbrook at this moment is Curry. The Golden State Warriors star is third on the list with 26,103 points.
Chris Paul is behind Curry with a little over 23,000. He is expected to call it a career after the 2025-2026 season, which should keep him out of reach for Westbrook’s record.
Westbrook is currently in the midst of his 18th season in the NBA. He spent 11 years with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He had two-season runs with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers. Seasons with the Nuggets, Houston Rockets, and the Washington Wizards were short-lived.

This season, Westbrook averaged 14.4 points per game, while shooting 42 percent from the field, leading up to Friday’s action between the Kings and the Phoenix Suns. Westbrook finished with 17 points in 26 minutes.
Westbrook and the Kings will be back on the court on Sunday to face the Milwaukee Bucks.
