AI-Powered Stylist Alta: Revolutionizing Personal Fashion

Behind the seamless interface is transformer architecture, the same foundation behind ChatGPT (the “T” in GPT), which allows Alta to refine recommendations continuously. Years ago, neural networks couldn’t support Wang’s vision of style personalization at scale. Today, Alta is proving AI can power not only conversations but closets, too.

Wang’s path to fashion-forward founder is as unique as her product. A Harvard computer science graduate, she always loved math, programming and fashion. She made her mark early at a Gucci-sponsored hackathon at Meta’s headquarters, where her team’s prototype earned the top prize, as well as the attention of Gucci’s then-CEO, now a longtime mentor. Wang later volunteered with Karlie Kloss’s nonprofit Kode with Klossy and co-hosted the Tech Setters podcast, cementing her place at the intersection of technology and style.

Today, Alta has attracted a powerful network of backers. Investors include fashion insiders like Meredith Koop, Michelle Obama’s personal stylist; Manish Chandra, founder of Poshmark; and supermodel Jasmine Tookes. Menlo Ventures recently led the startup’s $11 million seed round, joined by Aglaé Ventures (the Arnault family’s VC firm), Benchstrength Ventures and others.

Menlo partner Amy Wu Martin offers insight into the firm’s decision to support Alta: “At Menlo Ventures, we were looking for a fashion-forward founder that embodied a few things: had a deep technical understanding of how models can decode fashion, had a background in retail/fashion, and natively understood how to leverage today’s social networks for a distribution advantage. We found that in Alta founder and CEO Jenny Wang.”

In the face of fashion’s next frontier of “agentic shopping,” Alta delivers shopping recommendations for users in 40 countries and counting, and recently was named one of Fast Company’s Next Big Things in Tech, plus one of the best inventions of 2025 by TIME. Generating millions of outfits a week on the app, Alta is reshaping how people engage with fashion. And just like Cher’s ‘90s-era wardrobe tech, it’s designed to make choosing what to wear the most seamless, and stylish, part of your day.

Modern Luxury partnered with Menlo Ventures to spotlight three visionary entrepreneurs in our new series, Modern Founders, which celebrates the innovators redefining industries and the investors who help them get there. Watch the first episode above and stay tuned for more.
