Aldine ISD schools will join campuses across the nation in celebrating Computer Science Education Week from Dec. 8–14, highlighting the growing importance of computer science in an increasingly technology-driven world.
This year’s theme, “Computer Science Powers AI Innovation,” focuses on how foundational computer science skills fuel advancements in artificial intelligence and prepare students to thrive in future careers.
To support participation, the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department is coordinating a series of spirit dress days, classroom activities, and campuswide engagement opportunities designed to make learning fun, accessible and connected to real-world technology.
Districtwide Spirit Dress Days
Throughout the week, students and staff are invited to participate in themed dress days that introduce key concepts in computer science and AI in creative and age-appropriate ways:
- Machine Learning Monday – Wear patterns such as stripes or geometric prints to represent how machine learning identifies repeating features in data.
- Techie Twin Tuesday – Match outfits with a friend or group to highlight the idea of “training data pairs,” which help AI systems learn.
- Wired Wednesday – Dress in circuit-inspired colors like silver, green, or black, or accessorize with DIY “circuit board” designs to celebrate the hardware behind today’s technology.
- Turing Test Thursday – Come dressed as a robot, computer, AI-inspired invention, or a human imitating a machine — a playful nod to the classic test that examines whether a computer can appear human.
- Future Innovator Friday – Wear futuristic looks, STEM-themed shirts, or metallic elements to celebrate students as tomorrow’s technology leaders.
Classroom Activities Across Grade Levels
Teachers will have access to hands-on, engaging lessons designed to build AI literacy, spark curiosity and promote computational thinking. Activities are tailored by grade level and connect directly to this year’s theme. Students may explore how AI recognizes images, experiment with simple programming concepts, or learn how algorithms impact daily life.
Campuswide Participation
Schools will be amplifying the celebration through hallway displays, computer science showcases, CS Heroes posters honoring educators, and social media posts highlighting student learning.
Building Skills for the Future
Computer Science Education Week is supported nationally by the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA), which advocates for high-quality computer science education for all students. As artificial intelligence continues to evolve rapidly, introducing students to foundational computer science concepts helps ensure they are prepared for emerging opportunities.
Aldine ISD remains committed to expanding access to STEM and computer science pathways, empowering students to become creators, problem solvers and innovators.
