The AI solution handles high-volume administrative tasks such as appointment scheduling, clinical documentation and medical coding, Amazon says.
Amazon Web Services has announced Amazon Connect Health, an agentic AI solution to handle high-volume administrative tasks such as appointment scheduling, clinical documentation and medical coding.
Providers handle millions of patient calls annually, with staff spending up to 80% of call handle time compiling data across disparate systems for routine tasks like appointment scheduling, AWS said. Clinicians and administrative staff face continual documentation and administrative burden.
Providers want AI that works inside systems, AWS said. To this end, Amazon Connect Health surfaces information for clinicians.
Medical billing completes in minutes instead of days, according to AWS. This accelerates the revenue cycle, with medical codes ready to review by the time each patient visit ends.
Patients also receive scheduling assistance without staff manually compiling data.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Naji Shafi, general manager and director of Healthcare AI at AWS, told MobiHealthNews in a recent interview that healthcare workers are drowning in administrative complexity.
“It’s tough – the burnout, the pajama time, all of that,” Shafi said. “Staff tell us they’re spending 80% of their time on calls, just compiling data, trying to figure out what to do.”
Also, he said, 89% of patients say care navigation is a core challenge and that’s why they’re switching providers.
