L.A.’s American Cinematheque arts nonprofit org is launching a new weekly interview podcast series, featuring a range of filmmakers and others sharing their most memorable moviegoing experiences.
“The American Cinematheque Podcast” is hosted and executive produced by artistic director Grant Moninger. The show blends a podcast-style interview format with a game-show element, in which each guest is asked about which theaters, screenings and cinematic moments shaped their love of movies.
The first two episodes, featuring Edgar Wright and Mary Bronstein, respectively, will be released together on April 2. Other upcoming guests on the podcast include Franklin Leonard, Larry Karaszewski, Karyn Kusama, Walter Murch, Samy Burch, Noah Segan, BenDavid Grabinski, Patton Oswalt, Danny DeVito, Tatiana Maslany and Sean Fennessey.
“This show celebrates the ‘going’ in ‘going to the movies,’” Moninger says. “The theatrical experience creates deep personal memories that are forever tied to the films we saw and who we were and who we were with at the time we watched them. It might have been a wild adventure with friends, a first date, a tender moment with family, or a solo trip to a matinee to see an unknown film that left a lasting impression long after you left the seats.”
“The American Cinematheque Podcast” will include both video and audio versions, released weekly on Thursdays on YouTube and all major podcast platforms. An interactive version that allows the audience to program their own film festival will also be available on the show’s website, acpodcast.com.
The show is executive produced by Moninger alongside producer Victoria Alejandro and video producer Mike Cuenca. Stephanie Cervantes leads marketing, with production design by Seth Meisterman, animation and graphics by Jack Rossi and original music by Gelberg.
Established in 1984, the American Cinematheque first began showing films in theatres in 1985. Today its programming includes over 1,600 screenings per year, plus panels and special events. The organization has its home at the Aero Theatre, Los Feliz 3 and Egyptian Theatre and soon the Directors Village in Westwood.
