ATHENS – PASOK-Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Nikos Androulakis opened the 4th regular party congress on Friday, unfolding his party’s strategy toward national elections which he said focused on a political change, with an independent party, and without the possibility of co-governing with New Democracy.
During the opening speech of the three-day congress, he emphasized that it would be delusional to believe that the party would collaborate “with those who organized my ethical and political obliteration,” and said that “our goal is to defeat New Democracy, and you must all give your best in this fight.”
The main opposition leader called for a rallying of forces, saying that the country and the Greek people needed a change of conservative policies that increased inequality, encouraged cartels to act above the law, and undermined the quality of democracy with policies that multiplied society’s frustrations and lowered Greece’s prospects. “Together we shall win the Greece we deserve,” he said.
Androulakis issued a call for support from “every social power with which we share common concerns, to every democratic citizen who made different choices and was disappointed or abstains.”

“The time for a new change has arrived,” he said, using the word ‘allagi’ that became a historical trademark of the party. He also detailed the major historical achievements of PASOK, including among others the National Health System, the state testing and selection agency ASEP, the transparency portal Diavgeia, and the independent authorities that boosted institutions and democracy.
He attacked ruling New Democracy, saying “it is unrepentant; the party that led the country to its painful trial of bankruptcy and memorandums continues to slide down. Before power they sacrifice everything,” the party leader said, accusing the prime minister of clinging to power and calling the government ‘shady’.
“Before us lies a ruthless government that constantly finds refuge in division and social automation. They even dug up the hate rhetoric of the Civil War. We achieved a national reconciliation, looking to the future. Our plan is a plan of unity, of concord and progress for all Greeks,” Androulakis said.
