Archbishop of Athens blesses the New Year’s Vasilopita at the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece


On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, in the Hall of the Great Synod of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece blessed the traditional New Year’s Vasilopita, in keeping with longstanding custom.

Among those present were the Representative of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Athens, Metropolitan Theodoritos of Laodicea; the Representative of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in Athens, Metropolitan Georgios of Guinea; the Exarch of the Holy Sepulchre in Athens, Archimandrite Ieronymos; the Commissioner of the Holy Monastery of Sinai in Athens, Archimandrite Agathangelos; the Synodal Metropolitans, as well as many other clergy and distinguished guests.

Following the service, during which hymns were chanted by a choir under the direction of the Protopsaltis of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, Apostolos Papadopoulos, the Archbishop extended his heartfelt wishes to all for many blessed years. He prayed that the Lord may safeguard His Church, bless His clergy and people, and grant peace, tranquility, and blessing to Greece and to the entire world.

Afterwards, the clergy and lay employees of the offices of the Holy Synod, along with all those present, offered their good wishes to the Archbishop and received from him the traditional festive treats in a spirit of joy and mutual goodwill.
