The Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly Finance Committee will be asked to approve three bids for parks and recreation-related projects Thursday.
The projects include renovations at Slaterville and Bernice Allridge parks in Fairbanks and repairs to Wescott Memorial Pool in North Pole.
According to a memo from Cory Beale, the borough’s chief procurement officer, the Wescott Pool project’s lowest responsible bid comes from Orion Construction for $1.92 million. That includes the base project and three additives.
“The project consists of replacement of tile on the pool deck, replacement of underwater light fixtures, installation of reheat coils for the locker rooms, upgrade of the dewatering system components, re-spacing of boilers for proper maintenance clearance, replacement of waste and water piping within the pool deck, installation of a catwalk in the unoccupied space behind spectator seating, installation of equipotential bonding for pool equipment, addition of roof fall protection, and other work indicated in the contract documents,” Beale wrote.
Orion’s estimate was about $374,700 less than the borough’s $2.29 million estimate. Four other companies, including Callahan Construction Company, Heritage, Alcan Builders and American Mechanical, bid on the project. Their bids came in above the borough’s estimate.
A memo from Beale to the Assembly Finance Committee proposes awarding the Bernice Allridge Park project to Trost Construction for $565,610 and the Slaterville Park project to Exclusive Paving for $345,375.
Both projects are part of the borough’s “Park A Year” program, which seeks to renovate neighborhood parks.
The Bernice Allridge project scope includes upgrades to the playground, parking lot and pedestrian paths. Trost submitted the lowest responsible bid at about $173,906 above the borough’s $391,704 cost estimate. The bid cost includes both the base project and an add-on. Exclusive Paving submitted a $648,200 bid.
Slaterville Park improvements will include upgrades to the playground and construction of a parking lot and pedestrian paths. According to the bid documents, both Exclusive Paving and Rhino Construction submitted bids for the base project above the borough’s estimated $191,742 cost. Rhino submitted a $435,000 bid.
The Finance Committee meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Juanita Helms Administration Center, 907 Terminal St.
