Asus has seemingly confirmed that it is mostly done with Android phones, with no plans to release new devices in the Zenfone or ROG lineups in 2026.
While Asus has never been a huge name in Android, the company has had a long history in making smartphones. But it’s also been somewhat clear that things have been slowing down. For instance, the Zenfone lineup which was once known for its unique compact form factor threw away that aspect for a bigger device, and the 2025 follow-up, Zenfone 12 Ultra, adopted the core design of the Asus ROG Phone instead of continuing its own identity.
In 2025, Asus only announced two smartphones, the Zenfone 12 Ultra and the ROG Phone 9 series.
For 2026, there’s nothing in the pipeline.
Digitimes reports that Asus has “clearly communicated to telecom channels” that it has no plans for new Android smartphones in 2026, but that “maintenance, software upgrades, and warranty services for all existing products will not be affected.” However, Asus says that its “smartphone operations will continue,” implying the door isn’t permanently shut on new devices.
The timing here makes sense, especially given the rising cost of memory going into 2026. But as for whether or not Asus will throw in the towel entirely remains to be seen.
