Baseball is back baby! Opening Day was this week, and while baseball isn’t as ubiquitously beloved a sport as it used to be in the past, it’s still wildly popular, America’s pastime, and the first New York Mets game is close to a national holiday for me. It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of the Mets, considering I once went to Mets Fantasy Camp (detailed here and here), as well as wrote a whole piece (here) about the Mets’ fairytale run two years ago. So, why not tie it into this week’s Awards Radar Community Question? So, I’m keeping it simple and just asking the obvious question once again. Which baseball heavy films are your favorite?
Are you a big Moneyball fan? That would be the Oscar-centric title to pick, followed closely by A League of Their Own. There’s also the Kevin Costner trilogy of Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, and For Love of the Game. Maybe you prefer something lighter, like The Sandlot? Or, there’s wish fulfillment like Little Big League or Rookie of the Year? Hell, there’s sports biopic options, too, like 42, Pride of the Yankees or The Rookie. Frankly, there’s no shortage of options, which may be surprising, since baseball doesn’t get its cinematic due these days. Plus, there’s a baseball flick from last year in Eephus that proved very charming, so that’s just one more option to consider!
Folks, the choice is now yours. Which of the aforementioned baseball flicks do you like best? Do you prefer a different one than any of my suggestions? Whatever your take is, we’re all ears. So, play ball, chime in, and enjoy the season. Let’s Go Mets!
