GRASS VALLEY, Calif. March 20, 2026 – A hand-painted theatrical backdrop first used at Mount St. Mary’s Academy in 1892 is currently on display at the Grass Valley Museum. The backdrop, showing a fanciful European style garden terrace, is one of two used by students at Mount St. Mary’s Academy in productions including plays performed for visiting parents as part of the high school graduation festivities.

The public can view the backdrop for the first time in decades at the Grass Valley Museum’s annual vintage fashion show on Saturday, March 21st. This year’s show, “Dancing Through the Decades,” will feature party clothes from the 19th and 20th centuries. Tickets are $10.00 purchased at the door.
Afterwards, the backdrop will be on display and available for selfies and other photos, April 1st through 4th at the Grass Valley Museum at 410 South Church St.
