Barcelona target City star Silva
The 31-year-old is seen by Barca head coach Hansi Flick as the ideal candidate to add experience to a young squad.
”The Portuguese international is expected to leave the Etihad after nine years when his contract expires at the end of the season.
”And a move to the Nou Camp would appeal to Silva who wants to move closer to his homeland after almost a decade in England.
”He has never hidden his wish to end his career back at his boyhood club Benfica but feels he could still fit another European superpower in before then.
”Barca boss Hansi Flick has a young squad and sees Silva, 31, adding some much-needed experience to the midfield.”
Barca face Rashford deadline
Reports suggest that Barcelona will have to make a decision on whether they want to sign Marcus Rashford by mid-June.
However, it appears that Barca would prefer another loan deal rather than stump up the £26 million to exercise their option to buy.
“Rashford, 28, has two months left on his season-long loan at Barca, who signed him from Manchester United last summer.
”The two European giants negotiated an option to buy worth £26 million, which chiefs at the Camp Nou are yet to make a decision on. With 10 goals and 10 assists to his name, the England international has been a useful component in Hansi Flick’s attack.
”But according to reports, Barcelona are looking at alternatives and have asked United about extending his loan.
”The Red Devils, on the other hand, won’t alter the deal, with ESPN reporting that the La Liga champions have until June 15 to trigger their purchase option.”
Edwards and Hughes could quit Liverpool
Liverpool chief executive Michael Edwards and sporting director Richard Hughes are linked with a move away from the club.
The duo are out of contract next year, and The Athletic believes Saudi Arabian clubs are interested.
”The Athletic, like others, has reported that Hughes is the subject of interest from the Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal. Edwards, too, has his admirers in Saudi Arabia, as they try to extend their recruitment drive beyond players and coaches.
”Having made such a big deal about rehiring Edwards because of unprecedented expansion plans, and given they knew exactly what he is like to work with — driven, ambitious, occasionally spiky — it seems incredible how clumsily FSG appears to be mishandling the central pillar of his second tenure.
”If things continue on this road, it is difficult to see him remaining beyond 2027.”
Martial future in doubt
Monterrey forward Anthony Martial faces an uncertain future in Mexico after being kicked out of first-team training by the club.
An episode of ill-discipline appears to have cost the Frenchman after he was named as a substitute.
”According to TUDN, this follows the French forward having a meltdown after being relegated to the bench for his side’s latest fixture. Martial relocated to Mexico in September following a stint in Greece with AEK Athens.
”The United flop – once the world’s most expensive teenage footballer – required 12 league outings to net his maiden goal for Monterrey, which came in a 5-1 triumph at Mazatlan in January.
”And he openly displayed his frustrations in the recent 3-2 loss to Chivas when youngster Joaquin Moxica was introduced ahead of him.
”Boss Nicolas Sanchez has reportedly exiled the 30-year-old as punishment for his conduct.”
