BCM’s ‘tea with the queen’ as Heather French Henry hosts Teas and Tiaras Fashion Show April 25

Break out the hats, gloves and your favorite tea-time look. Behringer-Crawford Museum is bringing a little extra charm to Covington with an afternoon that blends fashion, history and a rare chance to enjoy tea with Miss America 2000, Heather French Henry.

That afternoon comes to life at the Teas & Tiaras Fashion Show, happening Saturday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kenton County Administrative Building, 1840 Simon Kenton Way, in the Riedlin-Schott Community Room.

This isn’t your typical fashion show. Guests will enjoy a lively showcase of 22 reproductions of historic women’s garments and two men’s looks, covering the past 250 years. Modeled by community members and NKU and UK students, the costumes are brought to life with stories and insight from fashion expert Robert Haven. It’s a fun, up-close look at how style has changed over the years and the details that made each era stand out.

Helping set the tone for the afternoon, Miss America 2000 Heather French Henry will serve as celebrity emcee, bringing her signature warmth and style to the event. A familiar face in the region and owner of the Rosemary Clooney House Museum in Augusta, she has also shared pieces from her collection in Behringer-Crawford Museum’s Treasures From the Attic: 250 Years of Fashion & Furniture exhibit. Guests will not only see fashion through the years, but also enjoy the experience alongside Heather as they sip tea and take it all in.

Attendees are encouraged to dress in their favorite vintage-inspired or tea-party attire. The experience includes:

• Delicious finger foods by Chef Barones
• A mimosa and hot and iced tea bar
• Music from the eras
• Door prizes
• Swag Bag
• A special raffle for an 18″ hematite and freshwater pearl necklace (valued at $125), donated by Herzog Jewelers

The setting adds its own layer of local history. The Riedlin-Schott Community Room and surrounding exhibits highlight Covington’s brewing past, made possible through the generosity of Reid Schott, a Bavarian Brewery family descendant, in partnership with Behringer-Crawford Museum.

The event is presented in conjunction with the museum’s current exhibition, Treasures From the Attic: 250 Years of Fashion & Furniture, now on view at Behringer-Crawford Museum through August 9. Developed in partnership with Northern Kentucky University’s Public History Program and part of the national America250 commemoration, the exhibition explores how everyday clothing and furniture tell the personal stories of our region’s past.

Learn more about the exhibition and plan your visit at bcmuseum.org. The full program is also available online.

The project was developed in collaboration with Northern Kentucky Public History students and supported with funding from the Kentucky Historical Society, America 250 Kentucky, The R.C. Durr Foundation, Northern Kentucky University and Schneller Knochelmann Plumbing, Heating & Air.
