I’ve been watching RTX 5060 gaming laptop deals closely over the last few months. Some of the best gaming laptops from Gigabyte, Lenovo, and Acer have been threatening to drop below $1,000 for some time now, inching closer to the goal with every new sale. HP has come out the gate swinging this Black Friday, though, with the lowest price I’ve ever seen on the mid-range configuration.
You’ll find the RTX 5060 HP Omen 16 for $999.99 at Best Buy this week, a $480 discount from the original $1,479.99 MSRP. That’s not only the cheapest RTX 5060 gaming laptop I’ve seen, but it’s also the first time one of these configurations has dropped below $1,000. All that, and Black Friday gaming laptop deals are only just getting started.
I’ve seen machines like the Gigabyte Aero X16 and Lenovo Legion 5 Gen 10 hitting sales prices of between $1,099 and $1,199 in the last few months, but none have dared drop below that four-figure boundary.
That makes today’s discount particularly special, but considering the speed at which even those prices were snatched up I wouldn’t expect this offer to last too long.
It’s not like you’re massively sacrificing in other areas to grab that RTX 5060 GPU either. The Intel Core Ultra 7 255H is still more powerful than the base versions shipping with more expensive Alienware gaming laptops right now, and that 16GB RAM is a little on the shorter side but still fine for the components you’re working with.
This is a conservatively specced machine, but nothing about it is underpowered. Take that 144Hz refresh rate, for example. Most gaming laptops are running 240Hz panels these days, but an RTX 5060 just isn’t going to need that amount of juice. I rarely hit 240fps even at the top of the GPU class, so keeping things stricter here is a solid decision.
The RTX 5060 itself, from my testing, is capable of running pretty much anything you can throw at it in 1080p. Lighter titles like Shadow of the Tomb Raider tend to see framerates similar to that of the previous generation RTX 4070, while more demanding Cyberpunk runs can still hover at the 60fps standard with a few graphical tweaks.
If you want all that in a QHD resolution, you’re best off checking out an RTX 5070 or RTX 5070 Ti model.
