Saturday of the FW26 NYFW season fell on Valentine’s Day this year. Naturally, the fashion streets were filled with both creativity and love. Campillo, the independent Mexican-owned brand kicked off the day bringing the dynamic tailoring and suit jackets we’ve come to know them for. Closing out the day was the beloved it-girl brand for all of us Black beauties, and beyond, LaQuan Smith.
As far as street style was concerned, fashion week attendees got into the feels, literally and figuratively, with their energy and ensembles. The striking element of the day was texture, which anchored many of the day’s styles. Coats in powder blue, deep browns, and pinks, and contrasting outerwear and scarf assortments were all trimmed with fur. The variety of outerwear with dimensional fabric and design was a treat to see, because, after all, if you don’t have a signature coat complete with some kind of unique element, ‘are you from New York even?’
A number of faux fur, leather, and fitted hats kept the people warm and stylish, as well as lace trim and pointelle fabric details, oftentimes acting as the statement accessory for an otherwise sleek look. I Love L.A. breakout star True Whitaker wore a soft grey look with pops of indigo and deep red, fitting for the love holiday, in tune with a few other beauties who styled shades of pink and red.
Then, we saw double with a stunning duo dressed in leather trousers and studded accent belts. And on par with that same edgy style, we saw a sprightly fashion friend in a textured red dress accessorized with safety pins, thigh high boots, and a metallic-studded bag. The looks of the day were playful, energized, and warm—perfect for a moment all about style and love.
