Better Business Bureau offers financial wellness tips for the new year

The Better Business Bureau is offering advice to help individuals kick off the new year with financial wellness.

Janna Kiehl, president of the Better Business Bureau, emphasized the importance of creating a budget, especially after the holiday spending season.

“A lot of times, you know, people do want to save money and they’ve just spent a lot of money at Christmas time. So, we tell them to start small. You know, any little thing that you can put away is good,” Kiehl said.

She recommended consulting a financial advisor or banker to build both short-term and long-term financial plans.

Kiehl also suggested that part of budgeting could include planning a trip, advising people to start saving and researching now.

“It’s good to plan. Use a reputable company that has a good rating with BBB,” she said.

She advised travelers to ensure their destinations are suitable for their needs, especially if traveling with children, and to stay informed about new travel rules.

Physical wellness is another aspect that can impact financial health.

Kiehl advised individuals to carefully choose a gym that aligns with their needs and goals before committing to a membership.

“Take your time. Check it out. Make sure that you can work out in that gym at the time that you want to,” she said, recommending a tour of the facility and checking the gym’s accreditation on BBB.org.
