Billie Eilish is eyeing the big screen.
The music star is in talks to make her feature acting debut with Oscar-winning filmmaker Sarah Polley‘s adaptation of Sylvia Path’s classic 1963 novel The Bell Jar. Polley, who earned an Oscar for her script for 2022’s Women Talking, is penning the screenplay that adapts the book.
Focus Features has landed the project that hails from Plan B Entertainment and StudioCanal. Joy Gorman Wettels, known for Little House on the Prairie and 13 Reasons Why, serves as producer. After originating the project through her company Joy Coalition, Gorman Wettels packaged The Bell Jar with Eilish and Polley and brought Plan B and StudioCanal on board.
The best-selling novel centers on the mental health journey of college student Esther Greenwood as she takes a role at a magazine.
A 10-time Grammy-winning musician, Eilish won her second Academy Award for her song “What Was I Made For?” from the 2023 film Barbie. This followed her Oscar win for “No Time to Die” from the 2021 James Bond movie of the same name. Her most recent album was 2024’s Hit Me Hard and Soft, featuring the hit singles “Birds of a Feather” and “Wildflower.”
The star has dabbled in acting with a role in the Prime Video series Swarm. She hosted a 2021 episode of Saturday Night Live.
Eilish is represented by WME and Sandbox Entertainment. Polley is repped by WME, GGA and Circle Management. Gorman Wettels is repped by Nina Shaw at Del Shaw.
The InSneider was first to report on Eilish and Polley’s involvement in The Bell Jar.
